COMIC KILLED!

Yes, it's true my friends. This comic strip was supposed to run in The Kalamazoo Weekly News (it's usual weekly venue) on Thursday April 24th. The Managing Editor of the paper shot down this strip, which forced my contact at the paper to rerun an old strip. While preventing this strip from appearing, he proceeded to ask (through my contact) for either some funny material about local events and issues, or perhaps the upcoming election. Maybe something more like "Far Side or The Lighter Side."

Yeah, he's asking for a comic strip completely different than the strip he has been running for the past six months. Below, you will find the strip that was denied. Please, let me hear your thoughts.

Othello, Final Cut

Here is the final revision of the Shakespeare poster.

Titus Andronicus is still my favorite Shakespeare play.

I kissed thee ere I killed thee, no way but this

A poster for Shakespeare's "Othello." The ominous, haunted tone of this piece to meant to convey the darkness of the themes on which the plot is built; jealousy, betrayal, lust, and murder. Interesting factoid: The antagonist of this play, Iago, has the most dialog of any other character in Shakespeare's entire body of work. That has nothing to do with this assignment.

Ok, so I did another Moji.

Seriously, if you were a criminal, and saw THIS guy comin at ya, you'd give up crime.

Oh Gee-Whiz!!! A Moji, it is!

Since I anticipate it will be an assignment after spring break, I went ahead and designed a Moji, which I posted to the Mojizu site for display. His name is Sawbones, and I think he's freakin adorable.

Even if you don't.

coming soon....

Since I know that you, dear reader, are just dying to find out what I am doing for my sequential art assignment (oh, sorry, let me mop up this dripping sarcasm here) I am going to tell you now.

My 3 images will be the first 3 pages of a one-shot comic book which, when completed, will be available for purchase. The comic will most likely debut at JumpCon, the sci-fi convention being held at the Radisson Plaza Hotel July 4 through July6. I'll have a table there, with my comic, various art pieces, and other goodies available for sale and giveaways. Tell your friends, your family, and strangers, to come on down and visit First Draft Studios at JumpCon, so I can look important in front of Mira Furlan, from Babylon 5!!!

Spot 2, Take 2

Thanks go to those who commented. Here's the revision after implementing the suggestions that were given.

The soundtrack to this image would be the closing credits music from the old "Incredible Hulk" television series.

Truth, Justice, and other stuff.

This is the final version of the Superman painting, based on the original by Alex Ross.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's....

My Master Copy

Original by Alex Ross

"He had seen everything...."

So begins "Gilgamesh: A New English Version" written by Stephen Mitchell, translated from a combination of various earlier translations of the earliest fictional narrative known to exist. The epic was originally written over 3,000 years ago (predating the Bible and Homer's Illiad by 2,000 and 1,000 years, respectively.) This image was composed as the cover for a graphic novel adaptation of the story of Gilgamesh, which I intend to create........eventually. It's not perfect, but I like it nonetheless. This is an entry for the new www.illustrationfriday.com keyword.

Plain old piece for "Plain"

....and boy, it makes a man hungry. I considered adding the "Lard Boy" imprint on the center donut, in homage to the classic Simpson's Halloween Special, but I feared for copyright infringement. But now I fear for copyright infringement just by typing "Lard Boy." CRAP! I did it again. Am I drunk or something?

Wait, I think I am.

Where's the picture?!?

Yes, that's right, there is no image to go with this post. That will come tomorrow morning, I think. Tonight, though, I give greetings to everyone who noticed I was missing last night. A wicked headache prevented me from attending. On the plus side, the extra time at home allowed me to finish my IllustrationFriday assignment. You'll see it soon.

New Header Image

Yes indeed, my friends, those are my pants.

Special thanks to the beautiful and talented Anetra Grice for taking the photos used to make this image. She is dangerously close to being too awesome. When she's around, I smile.

Until Tuesday, stop dawdling and go do something productive!

Sweet and Delicious

I don't know about you guys, but this makes me totally hungry!!!

Stephanie Pease bribed me to tell you all that her apple is better.

That's a lie, of course. No bribes.

But her apple is better than mine.

......the Hell?

How can an initial blog be so bloody boring? No art, no important news, no sneaky advertisements for adult personals and prescription performance enhancers?

.....and of course, no foul language.

I promise all of you, the blogs here will get better.
